Russell Ballinger, passed away Wednesday August 30, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Ky. She was born October 13, 1937 to the late William and Verna McHone Broadus. Being the wife of a minister for 32 years, Bessie led many bible studies, and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the First Faith Independent Church in Berea. Bessie was a quilter and had the honor of Kentucky Colonel.Other than her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Gabbard and step mother Lottie Broadus.Bessie is survived by four children, Jerry Gabbard of Berea, Debbie Ballinger (Frank) Powell of Berea, Rusty (Kim) Ballinger of Huntington W.V., Joanne Ballinger of Berea, Step son Dwayne Litton of Berea, five brothers, Bill Broadus, Sam Broadus, Conley Broadus, Tom Broadus Miller, and Don Broadus Miller, seven grandchildren, Valarie Gabbard Baker, Zack Gabbard, Chad Ballinger Jenkins, Amelia Burkhardt, Brooke Hensley, Bradley Martin Powell, and Cooper Ballinger. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Berea Cemetery Mausoleum, visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2017 from 1-9 pm at the funeral home. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and her brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers. (Berea Online)
